Gee i would think that a person with a computer like that would know how to
create a VCD.
1) first capture the damn bugger on to a AVI file
2) Compress it to pal VCD format (352x288, 25fps) using Xing Mpeg Encoder/DVMPEG
3) Use the Video CD creator which is available in the Adaptec EZ CD Creator
package.

A message posted in this newsgroup implied that drivers were required to run

greg <greg@itcomputers.com.au>
Hi Greg!
This is not a bug but a feature. If i get it right you are trying to view copy
protected dvds over tv-out, right? The thing is called "macrovision"
and prevents exactly that, to ensure you do not make copies on your vhs. As far
as i know there are some people who can with some tricks change to tv-out later
or something so they get it working, but there is another way. There is ONE (1)
codec that doesnt support macrovision, it's cinemaster v1.0.28.4952 (sounds
dangerous, doesn't it?) :)
I don't know if this is legal, but you can use this engine (for example with the
cinemaster dvd-player) and thus avoid the protection.

Tape the last two pins (two pins as in one at each side, seen from the end of
the card. NOT the case side) of your v3800.
Why: because v3800 is AGP x4 and a lot of mainboard builders simply wired the
pins used for AGP x4 detection together with the AGP x2. Result: When you turn
on your PC the v3800 switches to AGP x4 which BX doesn't support which results
in a black screen.

I have a big problem when capturing video at 704x576 (PAL, 25fps). In

Aula 10 <user@ciseca.uniba.it>
This is normal for "cheaper" video capture cards. Especially those
that implement software capturing. Even some more expensive capture cards
display this problem. It's simply due to the difference between TV's and
computer monitors. Asus is currently incorporating a real-time deinterlacing
filter into the new capture drivers that should fix these hairlines. It will of
course need
a *slightly* faster processor to capture the same res and same framerate though.

64- VGARTD.VXD for Win 95 or for Win 98 ?
Here is what I found on INTEL website: http://support.intel.com/support/technologies/graphics/agp/
What is VGARTD.VXD and where do I get it?
One of the benefits of AGP is the ability to use graphics textures directly from
main memory, as opposed to the PCI model that must copy textures to local
(graphics) memory before use. This new memory type is not supported directly in
Windows* 95 (OSR2.X), so VGARTD.VXD was created as a patch to the dynamic memory
manager in Windows 95, to allow this new memory type. Executing textures from
main memory is a feature supported by Windows 95 with DirectX* 5.0. This memory
type is supported without VGARTD.VXD in Windows 98. Graphics card vendors
distribute VGARTD.VXD with their drivers if the hardware supports the feature.
Without it, the AGP card would behave like a PCI card with regard to how
textures are handled. If your graphics card supports this function, the card
vendor should supply VGARTD.VXD with the driver. Contact the vendor for an
update.

User friendly: good, bad graphics for controls

AsusDVD:

ATI Player:
Speed: very fast
Quality: very good video, excellent sound
Comments: Fastest player (great for slow computers), best gui, however you can't

great, however, WinDVD can be good for the person interested in adjusting their
videos contrast brightness, ect. But a word of the warning: DONT install
more then 1 DVD player at a time or their filters overlap eachother, and with

Software Cinemaster:
Version 1.0.28 and lower works perfectly since it doesn't check for any
macrovision violations. Version 1.0.29 and 1.0.32 just gives me a black
and yellow striped screen with the words Macorvision 1,2,3 on it the moment I
switch to TV-Out. Cinemaster is definately the quickest of the bunch.
PowerDVD 2.0:
Allows playback to TV-Out if you start the movie first, and then switch to
TV-Out. Although once or twice during the movie it suddenly popped-up with
a macrovision violation when i fiddled with stuff. PowerDVD contains heaps of
settings, and I like the Pan&Scan and Grow/Shrink options. The
playback unfortunately was not smooth my my machine.
WinDVD 1.2.x:
Didn't test the quality that much but it sure sounded like it had a lot more
hiss. Couldn't get it to work with TV-Out. Kept on flashing between
the movie and WinDVD logo, even if I first start the movie and then siwtch to
TV-Out.
Xing 2.0.3:
Kept on crashing and wouldn't swap to TV-Out. Didn't try too hard though.
Also briefly tried Win98 DVD Player and PC Friendly that came with "You've
Got Mail", but nothing noteworthy comes to mind.
TV-Out quality wasn't too great compared to the montitor quality. Things were
very dark, and very dark patches showed up in red. Any ideas why?
So I would recommend the Cinemaster decoder for TV-Out. The only problem I
see as that the newer decoders doesn't work. So as Cinemaster improves you
cannot upgrade to the new version and still use TV-Out.
Wouldn't it be possible to hack the Asus drivers, so that it reports a
macrovision capable TV decoder to the DVD software?
I am considering getting a Hollywood Plus hardware decoder, just for better
TV-Out quality, but I heard that the pass-through cable degrades your normal
2D/3D quality. Can anybody confirm/deny this? Hope this help other
Software DVD people out there.

70- Wrong Bios flash ... What to do ???
Is the card working at all? If you can get to dos mode, then just get the
correct bios and flashing tool and do it correctly.
If not, it'll be a bit more difficult. These instructions are pulled from memory
from a recent issue of PC Powerplay, a great computer mag from Australia.
1. Get another video card (beg/borrow/steal) with a different chipset and by a
different manufacturer (eg s3 virge card). If your tnt is agp, get a pci card,
if pci get an agp. If you don't have an agp slot, make sure the new card is in
an earlier pci slot than your 3400 (further away from your isa slot/s).
2. Place this card (if pci) into the slot closest to your agp slot.
3. Make sure your bios is set to search for this new card before your old one by
changing the pci/agp setting for this.
4. Get the right bios and flashing tool for your 3400, boot your machine and
flash it.
5. Remove the new card and pray that the 3400 works now :)
IMPORTANT: I've never tried this or spoken to anyone who has tried this. I don't
know if I got the instructions right either, but they sound okay. Maybe take
this to a technical newsgroup and get them to check it out for you. Try
alt.comp.periphs.videocards.nvidia (I think), they may be able to help you.
Please don't just go out and do this since I would hate another video card to

I have ASUS AGP-V3800 TNT2 Ultra Can I use this card with SECAM signal in the
program LIVE3800/3.0?
biser <biser@microdin.ru>
You can use my patch to enable SECAM support in AsusLive/drivers
Here is some info from readme: The key feature of this patch - that it's
VERSION-INDEPENDENT - i.e. it works on any version of ASUS software
(Drivers, ASUSLive). It has been tested on a lot different versions of
ASUSLive/Drivers (Live 3400 2.20->AsusLive 3.4R, drivers v3400/v3800 v1.0
-> v2.08H) It's possible, that it'll work on v3000 VGA boards, but it
was tested only on v3400/v3800 boards. No any guarantee that it'll work
with next ASUS software releases - but it'll fail only in case ASUSTek
will change their software dramatically. But I don't think it'll happen in
future - for example this patch successfully works with Live 3400 2.20 and
ASUSLive 3.40R, which differ a lot and there is about a one year distance
between this programs.
Patch is written in Java with nice GUI :-)) Two versions of patch available.

Kb, - Internet Explorer 4.0 and higher required. May be everything will be
OK with IE 3.0 - but I didn't tried it.

74- Clip out commercials from TV capture
I like to capture off the TV and also like to take out the ads on my
computer. The problem is the best codec to use is the Asus one right (to
get no frames dropped) however since there is no pause when recording I have to
capture tv shows in segments that is - record up to on ad - stop the record
again.
In the end I have multiple asus avi clips. I then want to put them
all together - I have the ulead mediastudio pro editor and I can get them
all
together nicely. The problem is ulead does not have the asus codec so if I want
to save the film I have to either use Microsoft avi or something else which more
or less uncompresses - then needs to be recompressed.
In the end I want to be able to convert the file using xing to mpg - ulead has a
mpeg standard but it takes hours to convert while xing only takes twice the time
of the footage. Is there a solution or a better way of doing this??
Andrew <aouw@apv.com.au>
I'm using VCDCutter to clip out the commercials from TV capture. It works on
MPEG format, not AVI, which is where you want to end up anyway. So convert the
capture to MPEG and then clip and join. I believe that Adobe Premiere can
do this with the AVI format. In short, there are a number of solutions out
there, this is just mine.

75- How to get Linux Red Hat 6.0 installed with V3800
1) After building / installing Mesa you should replace the libMesaGL.so.*
with the nVIDIA-specific version (don't have the name at hand). Beware that
libGL.so.* is usually symlinked to libMesaGL. You don't need to recompile /
relink - applications linked with Mesa 3.0 should work OK, many apps linked
with other OpenGL libs will too.
2) You should check that XGL extension is being loaded into XServer. Check that
the last lines dumped by startx on the console tell something about glx being
initialized - you may need to add the module loading lines to your XF86Config
(nVIDIA supplies script for installing things but it didn't add the needed lines
to my config on RedHat 6.0).
3) 32-bit graphic modes are currently non-3D-accelerated. After switching to 16
bit all works well and pretty fast.
